Description
Many Indian civilizations honored turquoise as the universal stone, for they believed their minds would become one with the universe when wearing turquoise. To the prehistoric Indian, turquoise, signified the god of the sky alive in the earth, and in that way, it acted as a divining stone. The Indians of Mexico and the Southwestern United States often used turquoise to guard burial sites. O Red Coral used as a gem material is a branching skeleton-like structure produced by small marine animals. Deposits are found along the coasts of western Mediterranean countries, Bay of Biscay, Japan, and numerous pacific island chains. It is often harvested by divers to prevent damage, and production is increasingly controlled by environmental laws. Coral ranges from light red to ox blood red.
